Amir Tal (Sup. Prof. David Roe)
Background
Amir holds a master’s degree in community mental health from the University of Haifa. Amir has been working over the past 15 years in the disability field and he specializes in promoting research, policies and practice aimed to improve quality of life and social inclusion of people with disabilities. Amir Is currently working as the chief scientist of Beit Ekstein, Danel group, an organization that provides person-centered services to people with disabilities. The organization operates 17 special education schools throughout Israel, and more than 50 housing and employment services to children, youth and adults with special needs due to conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual disabilities, mental health conditions and learning disabilities. Furthermore, he is the co-founder of a start-up that develops a human support augmented digital mental health recovery app; serves as the moderator of social science-IL network and as a board member of Caregivers Israel and the international society of virtual rehabilitation. He is also a member at the stigma section at the World Psychiatric Association.
Current Research
Mapping the prevalence, trends and attitudes related to digital technology use among individuals with serious mental illness (with Shpigelman, C. N. & Zisman-Ilani, Y)
The aim of this study is to map the prevalence, trends, attitudes, and barriers related to digital technology use (e.g., smartphones, apps, and computers) among Israeli adults (over the age of 18) with serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, compared to the general population. The findings of the proposed study will not only add to the knowledge of mobile mental health in Israel, but will allow us to create set of recommendations regarding future development of smartphone application to manage mental healthcare
