
Background
Dr. Shai Shorer, a clinical social worker (MSW, PhD.), received his doctoral degree from the Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Sciences at the University of Haifa, where he currently is a tenure-track faculty member at the School of Social Work. He completed a two-year clinical fellowship in couple’s therapy for trauma survivors at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada, under the supervision of Professor Candice Monson, and a post-doc study exploring the longitudinal grief processes occurring among Israeli military widows, under the supervision of Professor Rachel Dekel, at Bar-Ilan University, Israel.
His current research interests deal with the long-lasting effects of exposure to trauma, and the various treatment options offered to trauma survivors. Dr. Shorer is currently studying the diverse aspects of Nature-Assisted Group Interventions for IDF veterans at B’Shvil HaMachar, where he serves as a group facilitator and head of research (https://www.bshvil.org/?lang=en). In addition, he studies the extensive effects of loss and bereavement, and cross-cultural aspects of trauma and post-trauma.
Dr. Shorer is a lecturer, therapist, and certified clinical supervisor in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), as well as a certified biofeedback and EMDR therapist, specializing in individual and couple’s therapy for trauma survivors. He is the former head of the IDF veterans treatment unit at ‘Haemek’ Medical Center’s Psychiatric Service, where he also coordinated and supervised the field of CBT. Currently Dr. Shorer practices at a private clinic in Israel.
