About the School Of Public Health

About the School

At the summit of Mount Carmel, the School of Public Health at the University of Haifa stands proudly. For over 15 years, we have been at the forefront of the fight to improve public health, addressing the key challenges of our time. In an era where climate change, global pandemics, chronic pain, and environmental crises threaten global health, we offer a multidisciplinary approach and advanced methods that integrate social sciences, medicine, environmental studies, and technology. This equips professionals to guide the world in addressing these challenges.

Addressing 21st-Century Challenges with Specialized Tools

Today’s health struggles demand innovative and flexible solutions. At the School of Public Health, we believe that responding to complex health needs requires professional, in-depth, and practical training tailored to our rapidly changing realities. Our programs are specifically designed to provide students with practical tools, scientific analysis, and a holistic understanding of public health.

Master’s Programs Offered:

  • Epidemiology (MPH): Focuses on identifying disease patterns and developing preventive strategies. Epidemiologists are at the forefront of combating infectious and chronic diseases, especially during global pandemics such as COVID-19.
  • Health Promotion (MPH): Aims to lead change in communities by designing programs to enhance health and reduce disparities. Our students are equipped to lead significant initiatives and influence regional and national health policies.
  • Environmental Health and Occupational Hygiene (MPH): Prepares students to study the impacts of the environment on health, addressing challenges like climate change and pollution. Understanding the environment-health connection is critical as global warming increasingly affects public health.
  • Biostatistics (MPH): Equips students to analyze health data using advanced statistical tools, enabling them to monitor and interpret global health trends, epidemiological patterns, and disease management.
  • Bioethics and Public Health (MPH): Tackles complex ethical dilemmas in modern medicine. As technology and medical capabilities advance, we train students to address pressing ethical questions accompanying these changes.
  • Health Systems Management (MPH): Trains students to improve healthcare quality by exploring policy, economic, and systemic dimensions of healthcare management.
  • Physical Activity, Exercise, and Health (MPH): Focuses on promoting physical activity tailored to special populations, including individuals with chronic illnesses.
  • Health Administration (MHA): Prepares students to lead public and private health organizations in navigating the managerial challenges of modern healthcare systems. Graduates are trained to implement policies, manage complexity, and guide operations during crises.
  • Nutrition, Health, and Behavior (MAN): Focuses on studying the relationship between nutrition and health behavior, emphasizing chronic disease prevention and lifestyle improvement. The program combines theory and practice to prepare students as experts in nutritional change.
  • International Public Health Program (MPH): Conducted in English, this program provides practical tools for addressing multicultural issues in public and global health.

We also offer opportunities for doctoral studies in public health. Our PhD research promotes comprehensive and impactful studies that influence health policies in Israel and worldwide.

Advanced Research Laboratories: Engines of Innovation and Global Leadership

As part of our practical approach, students participate in research in our cutting-edge laboratories:

  • Health and Risk Communication Laboratory: Develops tools for effective communication during crises and pandemics, such as COVID-19, and helps make critical information accessible to diverse audiences.
  • Integrated Pain Research Laboratory: Focuses on innovative solutions for chronic pain, studying pain mechanisms, and developing new treatment approaches to improve quality of life.
  • Climate Health and Resilience Laboratory: Explores the health impacts of climate change and devises strategies to mitigate the adverse health effects of environmental phenomena like air pollution and temperature changes.
  • Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory: Analyzes genetic and epidemiological data to study the etiology and prognosis of cancer and pre-cancerous conditions, including the development of genetic scores for predictive models.
  • Epidemiological Research Laboratory for Alzheimer’s Disease and Brain Aging: Identifies factors associated with cognitive decline in aging, such as genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, and discovers blood biomarkers to predict dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
